LC8 Waterpump Repair Procedure
Text and photos by Antware:
If you want to do the whole thing here's what you'll
need, but I think you'll be ok with just the shaft and seal plus gaskets
and maybe the two small circlips, depending on
your stance on re-using circlips
If
you do replace the bearings, make sure you put them in the right way,
they're only sealed on one side. There's a larger circlip between the two bearing that sits in the
casing, not on the shaft, that prevents you from driving them out
together.
You'll have to drive the outside bearing from the inside
with a punch or drift, remove the circlip, then drive out the inside bearing.
Be
sure to protect the new seal somehow when placing it over the new
shaft...maybe greasing the seal will help extend the life of the shaft.
Here's
a lightly scored shaft with about 15K miles on it that I replaced as a
precaution although it wasn't yet leaking.
You'll
want to remove these 11 bolts, and then remove the clutch (case) cover.
You can leave the clutch cover that has the LC8/KTM logo
attached.
